It's gotten to be less about prioritizing the small tasks and more about juggling the large umbrellas under which such tasks fall. The large umbrellas are, of course, figurative, although at times they may as well be literal umbrellas because I hardly know how to juggle. Short term work, money, schoolwork vs. long term planning, networking, etc. And then the creative outlets and shot in the dark projects like the album I want to (and almost need to) make. And also keeping up with friends because the good people are important.

Things we should never forget
-some things need to be allowed to fall by the wayside
-most choices do not involve options which are desirable and/or compelling
-guilt is a waste of energy. We live finite lives in a finite world. Consider the choices.

A few posts ago I asked why, under duress, animals become "more female".
I've come up with a hypothesis.
We are all female in the womb and then, at a certain point, approximately half become male. So, female is our innate position. Under environmental duress, it makes sense that we would revert to our base states.
Also, I thought of how females' reproductive organs are on the inside of their bodies while male reproductive organs are more external... and so these female organs are more protected and contained behind a protective barrier. In a hostile environment it would make sense to take on a more protected and defensive position.
Just some thoughts on the topic.

In other events, I love the way our luscious president keeps on saying "Iran isn't Iraq" lately. A very obvious statement on the surface, but clearly these two nations are not so different when it comes to his intents and purposes. Say it enough and convince. Once upon a time I had a piano teacher who would always say: "practice doesn't make perfect; practice makes permanent."

pictures and parties
I think most people who read this thing like to see pics. Since I started my flickr site, though, I've been putting the pics there and the text here. But aesthetically I like pics in the blog, and many of y'all are lazy about reading, so I'll start posting more pics here again. But always, the majority of pics will go on the flickr, so keep checking that out.

In other events, come to the party tomorrow night:

Tomorrow, February 26th, brings us another Bad Teenage Moustache party at Giorgios

The $10 cover charge is quickly and easily made up for by the $2 and $3 drinks, so no fiscally-based excuses will be accepted. I very much hope to see y'all there.

large scale casualties
studies have found organochlorine chemicals to be the cause of widespread catastrophic effects on wildlife.

of particular note:
(5) emasculation and feminization of male fish, birds, turtles, alligators, otters, minks, beluga whales, polar bears, and panthers in the Great Lakes area, Florida, west coast, Europe, Arctic.

(8) birth defects and high infant mortality in mammals of the Great Lakes area

(10) abnormal sex organs and intersexed birds, turtles, alligators, sturgeon, etc. in the Great Lakes, west coast, Florida, Mississippi and Missouri Rivers, etc.

(13)production of vitellogin, a female protein, by male fish living near sewer outfalls.

political and large-scale social astrology
a little known and virtually never studied planetary incident occurred in November 1983. This phenomenon, Pluto's return to Scorpio, occurs every 247 to 250 years, and accurately foreshadows the major movements of history for the ensuing two and a half centuries.

some things the 1983 Pluto return chart shows:
the world would see a grave new sexual disease, that men and women would "become interchangeable," that the world wars would end and be replaced by a form of police state, etc... that those who communicate in short bits will be the guides for mankind; and that the long-winded, lawyers, professors, big business, book writers, etc., will be corrupted, or at least frustrated. It shows the cataclysmic, erratic violence of the preceding (1736-1983) era, not only the world wars, the violence endemic to society, will be supplanted by a more "controlling" society. It shows corporate crime will expand massively... It shows men will become more psychic. The sexes will merge. (We've already seen male fish in the great lakes turn female in reaction to the drugs from human waste.)...

{why do animals frequently "become more female" when under such environmental duress?}

about me. and other things.
some things. random things that have occurred to me to share for no reason other than that they should be noted somewhere.
.the best thing for when it's hard to bring yourself to prepare or eat anything is chicken broth with some pasta or rice, an egg or two dropped in and stirred around, and whatever veg is available. I do this very often
.I can listen to Pulp's "This is Hardcore" with more frequency and consistently over a greater duration of time than any other album I know of. I do not necessarily think it is the best album there is, though
.I don't really like movies
.I find most famous male actors unremarkable and frequently can't distinguish between one and the next
.I find most famous female actors to be quite unremarkable too, and also transparent (essentially, they seem to focus on their PR acting rather than screen acting)
.warm liquids are my ultimate comfort. This takes the form of bathing and drinking anything warm like soup or tea
.I grew up thinking that my directness was negative and perhaps obnoxious, but actually, most people who are not my family seem to appreciate this quality
.physical symmetry in humans is said to be the formula for beauty, but taken to a large degree, is just really boring
.yogurt is best bought by approaching an indian or middle eastern restaurant and asking them to sell you some of theirs rather than buying anything that can be bought in a store. It's generally homemade and much yummier and better quality.

from the box
the green tea teabags I've had lately have different "words of wisdom" on each of the little paper/cardboard thingies that are attached to the strings. I just got one that said "punctuality is a virtue of the bored." A good retort for when I get complained to about my lateness.

the moment
some things are good like I understand precalc a lot better than I thought I did and that I only owe the state IRS another $200 and then I'm done with past debt. Unfortunately the feds are another story. Also, it's time for getting my realtime CD burner deck in action. First Barabajangal is being put on CD, since I promised mom she could have her record back.

In other events, life flows. Several possible work projects on the horizon. Jeff is buying a ring and travelling 3000 miles to steal his ex from her current fiance who wants to give her babies and a house on the beach. It's like a sweet but crappy movie or romance novel. I might skip class tonight because I'm exhausted and the prof probably wont be there and I want to make the tandoori chicken that's been marinating.

more than VD
Let's get the silly Valentines Day stuff out of the way first.

Happy Valentines Day!
I love everyone.
(and so on and so forth)

some related pics:

karaoke on the ceiling;
a flower I drew;
the sexiest plastic octopus photo I've ever seen or taken

And now onto birthdays.
I hadn't realized until recently that this week or so of February is as insane with the friendly birthdays as is the month of October. So, Happy Birthday to Gabe, Courtney, Jen Rock, Raelene, Colin, Mom, cousin Mark, and, as I remember it, Eric.

the universal soldier
great song.
woke up with it in my head today.
(probably because I couldn't help but listen to it 10 times before bed last night)
then looked for the lyrics to post in this very blog;
and noticed the publishing credit is listed as 'Caleb Music'.
strange confirmation that Donovan really is good music for babies...?

Normally I wouldn't print lyrics here, but sometimes it's worth it:

He's five feet two and he's six feet four
He fights with missiles and with spears
He's all of 31 and he's only 17
He's been a soldier for a thousand years

He's a Catholic, a Hindu, an athiest, a Jain,
a Buddhist and a Baptist and a Jew
and he knows he shouldn't kill
and he knows he always will
kill you for me my friend and me for you

And he's fighting for Canada,
he's fighting for France,
he's fighting for the USA,
and he's fighting for the Russians
and he's fighting for Japan,
and he thinks we'll put an end to war this way

And he's fighting for Democracy
and fighting for the Reds
He says it's for the peace of all
He's the one who must decide
who's to live and who's to die
and he never sees the writing on the walls

But without him how would Hitler have
condemned him at Dachau
Without him Caesar would have stood alone
He's the one who gives his body
as a weapon to a war
and without him all this killing can't go on

He's the universal soldier and he
really is to blame
His orders come from far away no more
They come from him, and you, and me
and brothers can't you see
this is not the way we put an end to war.

this week in prominent, moon-based holidays...
Almost all religions and customs start in the same place.
God is the man in the moon.
So much is lunar.

Mardi Gras
Mardi Gras means "Fat Tuesday" and of course is celebrated on that day of the week. The date can fall between February 3 and March 9 depending on the Lunar calendar, used by the Catholic Church to determine the date of Easter. Mardi Gras is always 47 days before Easter Sunday.

Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year starts with the New Moon on the first day of the new year and ends on the full moon 15 days later. The 15th day of the new year is called the Lantern Festival, which is celebrated at night with lantern displays and children carrying lanterns in a parade.

The Chinese calendar is based on a combination of lunar and solar movements. The lunar cycle is about 29.5 days. In order to "catch up" with the solar calendar the Chinese insert an extra month once every few years (seven years out of a 19-yearcycle). This is the same as adding an extra day on leap year. This is why, according to the solar calendar, the Chinese New Year falls on a different date each year.

i hate technology
My phone doesn't tell me when I have voicemail. It doesn't even show the little envelope in the top right corner of the screen the way the old one (that was the SAME EXACT MODEL) did. Sorry everyone.

...oh, but it tells me when I have text messages.

another one for the file
to add to the list of song lyrics that are hilariously ridiculously stupid but wonderful (or whatever that list I made and add to once in awhile is...):
"You couldn't rap with me if we was twins stuck together
You be the deformed one, catchin the warm one"
-Kool Keith (aka Dr. Dooom)
